I am participating in the Run for Her in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada, a fundraising trail run in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity dedicated to overcoming ovarian cancer.
Why do I participate, because as someone who has been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, I need help to ensure that research keeps advancing and support is given for people like myself. Approximately 3,000 Canadians are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year and our outcome statistics are grim with almost 50% of us being diagnosed with a recurrence....or worse within the first 5 years. I beat the initial odds and didn't recur until my 6th year. But I did recur and it did spread.
Since my original diagnosis, I feel that my life has been in a million pieces and each piece is a different part of my life, much like the pieces of a quilt.
Ovarian Cancer Canada has helped me pick up some of those pieces and give me purpose. I have been a part of the Patient Partners in Research group for 5 years now and I get to help people born with ovaries get the help they deserve to take action and alleviate the risk of ovarian cancer, to overcome the cancer, to survive their diagnosis and thrive in their life.
With the help of Ovarian Cancer Canada, we are turning those pieces into a beautiful quilt. This quilt provides support, comfort and hope to all those affected by this disease whether they are patient, family or friend.
Please support me and my efforts to change outcomes for people like me. And if you do....for every $20 donation to the Run for Her - 31KM Trail Run, I will put your name in a raffle to win a beautiful handmade quilt, made and donated by my Mother (Yvonne Wedge) to help raise funds for this run.
Thank you so much for your support.
