Karen's OVC Fundraising Quilt
In all of my years, I have always heard that Life can be summed up by a quilt. Lots of little pieces all put together to form a thing of Beauty. Well, My Cancer Detour has also added to the beauty of my quilt.
I was diagnosed with Endometroid Ovarian Cancer - Stage 3C, just 4 days after my 50th Birthday in November 2019. My Story is a usual one...Vague symptoms led to lots of tests with inclusive results. But at least my Dr didn't stop looking. 6 Months, 12 Tests, 3 Specialists and 1 surgery later, I received my diagnosis.
After Treatment, I have come to discover a group of women associated with Ovarian Cancer Canada, the Patient Partners in Research group. This Group has been in the forefront of advocacy, Education and advancing research. When I heard about them, I felt the need to be a part of the group. And I have been for over 2 years.
All of these experiences and people has helped me to craft my life quilt and and much as it has scared me and affected me, It has also made me appreciate the beauty in things I may have taken for granted. All those little pieces in my life has created an amazing Quilt. And I am thankful to be able to share it with the members of the Patient Partners in Research Team.
By fundraising in support of Ovarian Cancer Canada, I am standing hand-in-hand with the people experiencing, affected by, or at risk of the disease.
And I WILL NOT REST until women can live their lives freely, fully, and uninhibited by ovarian cancer.
My Fundraiser honours the lives of those who have been affected and demands action.
Proceeds support OCC, the only national charity dedicated to eradicating this disease. OCC is improving outcomes and changing the face of this disease – for good. And your donations will fuel vital research, advocacy efforts, and education.
Today, thousands of Canadian women are living with ovarian cancer. We know that ovarian cancer remains the most fatal women’s cancer in Canada and of the 3,000 women diagnosed annually more than half will not live 5 years past diagnosis. But we are on the cusp of breakthroughs that can change that.
You can help ignite change. Please support this event with a generous donation.
**For Every $5 Dollars Raised on my the My Life is a Quilt Fundraiser. I will be adding your name into a draw to win a Beautiful Hand Made Quilt. Quilted by my Mother, Yvonne Wedge so that one of you can have your own beautiful quilt. This draw is not being conducted by Ovarian Cancer Canada. I will draw for a winner on World Ovarian Cancer Day - May 8, 2024 (Around 5PM)
