Join me in raising funds for Ovarian Cancer Canada!
On September 8, I am joining the Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope, and I invite you to stand alongside me in supporting this immensely vital cause!
My "Why":
As some of you may know, in late 2019 my beloved Aunty Sonya, affectionately known as "Aunty Lasagna" in our home, was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Her journey was a testament to strength, resilience, and the power of the human spirit.
Through surgery, chemo, and radiation, Aunty Sonya faced each obstacle head-on, her determination unwavering even in the face of complications. She's always been honest about the hard days, and celebrated the little (and big) wins. Today, I am thrilled to share that she stands almost four years cancer free(!!!) - a remarkable victory that defies the odds and highlights the significance of Ovarian Cancer research.
This experience marked one of my first encounters with cancer hitting close to home, and its impact was profound. Aunty Sonya has been a constant presence throughout my life and the lives of my children. Her diagnosis was a stark reminder that no one is immune to this relentless disease.
Inspired by her courage, I am excited to join the "Missing my #ladyballs" team for the upcoming Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope on September 8. This event not only raises essential funds for Ovarian Cancer research, but also spreads awareness about this silent and often overlooked killer.
How you can help:
I am here with a heartfelt request for your support. My goal is to raise $1,000 to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at preventing, detecting, and ultimately conquering Ovarian Cancer. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. Additionally, for donations of $20 or more, tax receipts will be issued automatically.
Join me in honoring Aunty Lasagna's resilience and countless others who have faced this battle. Your generosity will fuel advancements in Ovarian Cancer research, bringing us one step closer to a future free from its grasp. Your words of encouragement and support are equally invaluable as I embark on this fundraising journey.
Let us stand together against Ovarian Cancer, championing hope, strength, and the unwavering spirit that propels us forward.
If you are unable to donate funds please consider joining our team (Missing my #ladyballs), helping with an encouraging message, or reposting graphics on social media. September is Ovarian Cancer awareness month. Ovarian Cancer Canada is on FB and Instagram for more info. #ovariancancercanada
Thank you so much,
Renee Kimber
Ovarian Cancer is STILL a "silent killer" as many of its symptoms are ignored, dismissed to some other reason, or simply not recognized till later stages. Bloating, difficulty eating, change in urination or bowel habits, abdominal pain. For women who have dealt with pelvic issues their whole life it is easy to see why these are ignored.
Ovarian Cancer Canada is the national organization and it is through research that we can begin to change the course of this disease. Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer numbers have drastically improved over the past 50 years but Ovarian Cancer stats have stayed the same. Only 45 percent of women diagnosed with this cancer will remain cancer free past 5 years and even less past 10 years. This is not acceptable.
All those born with Ovaries or "lady balls" as we like to call them, are at risk for ovarian cancer. Pap tests DO NOT detect ovarian cancer. Currently there is no early detection tests available for Ovarian Cancer.
Please help me raise awareness, raise funds, and aid in the ongoing research to change the course of this disease. For your self, for your daughter, for your wife, for your mom, aunt, sister, grandma, niece or friend. These women deserve to live their lives to the fullest.
