Welcome to my personal fundraising page!
Today, thousands of Canadian women are living with ovarian cancer and another 2,800 will be diagnosed this year. Every day, we lose 5 Canadian women to ovarian cancer.
In October 2016, I was diagonosed with a double diagnosis of stage 1 ovarian and uterine (endometrial) cancer. Only 15% of women are diagnosed in the early stages of ovarian cancer, so I feel very lucky it was caught early.
I had 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 5 and a half weeks of radiation and June 2, 2024 will be my 8 year anniversary of completing treatment! I’m so grateful I get to celebrate this milestone.
There is no test for ovarian cancer and there is a reason it's called the silent killer as by the time you start having symptoms, you are already in the later stages. In the early stages, the symptoms can be vague and non-specific (fatigue, bloating, frequent urination, bowel issues, feeling full while eating, etc.) so can be easily attributed to other issues. By fundraising, I hope that research finds a test to detect this cancer at the early stages.
The Walk celebrates the hope I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease. This is why I’m participating with thousands of others at the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope.
Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity entirely dedicated to this important cause. Funds will be used to provide support, increase awareness, and fund vital research so that we can change the future for the women we love.
Please provide your support by giving generously. Better yet, if you are up for a challenge this September, come out and join me. Together we can make a difference.
