Walk of Hope 2024
Hello everyone!
This is my 14th year participating in the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope!! I'm grateful to have another opportunity to help raise awareness and funds for Ovarian Cancer. I look forward to a great walk and to share it with all of you.
As with all the previous years, I am walking in honour of my dear cousin Janet who we lost in 2011. She was a vibrant caring person with a zest for life who bravely battled the disease for four years.
The Walk of Hope celebrates our hope for a future without this disease. Every dollar we raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity entirely dedicated to this important cause.
The walk this year takes place on Sunday September 8th. Please provide your support by giving generously. Better yet, if you are up for a challenge, come out and join the walk. Together we can make a difference.
An Acrostic Poem Celebrating
Ovarian Cancer Canada’s Walk of Hope
Composed by Lorraine Nettle - Burlington, ON, Canada - September 2016
At this time each September, we walk for those who are dear
And since its humble beginning, it still remains very clear
We must come together, to raise awareness and hope
Walking united as one, together we climb the slope
All the excitement on walk day, there’s such a buzz in the air
A meeting of family and friends, with so much love to share
Lots of stories are told, inspiration abounds
Let’s shout it from the rooftops, so the message resounds
Keep the message going strong, for the rest of the year
Keep raising the bar, one day we’ll be in the clear
Out of despair and fear, a walk of hope began
One woman, Peggy Truscott, had a visionary plan
Finding ways to raise awareness, never letting her spirit fade
Fighting with resolve, from the cause she never strayed
How many great strides, we’ve made throughout the years
Hoping one day soon, there’ll be no more need for tears
One day we will get there, if we courageously keep trying
Open our hearts and trust in God, in that there’s no denying
Plant your sunflowers now, so they’ll bloom early next September
Place one in the memory garden, it will help us to remember
Everyone that we walk for, is very special and dear
End Ovarian cancer, let this be the year!
