My Story
WALK of HOPE 2023
Four months ago, an ultrasound revealed a 10 cm complex mass on my right ovary. Within 3 days, I had an MRI which noted mural nodes on this mass. I knew through my research that this was concerning for possible transformation to cancer. My CA125 lab test was normal.
The abdominal bloating and urinary symptoms were worsening. Therefore, I was referred to a gynaecologist oncologist in Halifax. The specialist advised me that surgery was necessary. I was very pleased to have such incredible expertise in my camp!
Within a month, the pain in my abdomen became intermittently severe. Surgery was moved to urgent. Within a few weeks, the gynaecologist oncologist removed a 15 cm mass, and my uterus, ovaries and the lining of my abdomen. The pathology report revealed Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer.
I will complete my Fourth Cycle of Chemotherapy in the first week of September, 2023. I have 6 Cycles and expect to be finished sometime in October, depending on whether a Cycle must be postponed due to abnormal lab results.
I walk approximately 3 km daily. I have mostly good days, and some not so good related to the side effects of Chemotherapy. Life is fantastic otherwise, and I am reminded to live each day to the fullest. I work diligently at my thought processes, and immediately change negative thinking to positive thoughts. It is easy to worry, but it is much more helpful to smile and enjoy every moment of my day. How I feel comes directly from my thoughts. And what I believe to be true impacts my emotions. We truly can beat Ovarian Cancer, and I am so grateful for my Team at home, and my Team in Annapolis Royal. Thank you!
Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer is rare and there is uncertainty about the success of treatment. What we do know is that Ovarian Cancer affects women of all ages and approximately 25% are over age 74. Please consider joining my Team and making a small donation to help researchers discover new treatments and with hope, a cure.
This Walk of Hope is meant for all of us! The goal is to ensure that if we are unfortunately diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, we know it can be faced head-on and with confidence!
Thank you for your care and concern. It means the world to me.
WALK of HOPE 2024
It has been a wonderful year. Our trip to Europe was outstanding! We have also enjoyed many events in Annapolis Royal and other places in Nova Scotia. I treasure my family and being re-connected with such devoted long time friends. My chemotherapy friends who have endured this illness and found a way to embrace every moment of life are my true heroes.
October 18, 2024 will be my 1 year anniversary post chemotherapy. I recently had some minor symptoms that caused me to worry that cancer had returned. CT anxiety is real, and waiting for results can be difficult. However, I am pleased to say that I remain cancer free!
Thank you to everyone who donates to research. This year I participated in the Canadian Conference on Ovarian Cancer Research. Clear cell ovarian cancer is rare, and there is no guarantee that chemotherapy works for this type of cancer. We desperately need research for early detection and effective treatments in order to eradicate ovarian cancer for good!
Please walk with me in Annapolis Royal Nova Scotia, or from another place in the world. Let's think of all women when we participate in my Walk of Hope to cure ovarian cancer.
Thank you for considering a donation to research. This means the world to me.
