Frances Edwards - my mom - lost her battle with ovarian cancer in December 2019. During her illness she participated in the Walk of Hope in 2018. One her last wishes was for her children to continue participating in the Walk of Hope each year to honour her memory and to help others by raising money for ovarian cancer research.
I miss her every day.
Ovarian cancer is a cruel disease. It's one of those insidious cancers that is hard to detect due to the vague symptoms that patients experience. Generally, once the cancer is found it is in an advanced stage. Expanding research on early detection is crucial for finding ways to diagnose the disease much earlier in its progression and to improve overall survival rates for patients.
