Welcome to My Personal Page!
In 2002, my sister, Barbara was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I didn't know much about it at the time, but sure know more now. My sister was one of the bravest women I know. She dealt with the disease head on, and made it her mission to educate well women, health care workers, and was an advocate for patient care with the provincial government.
Barbara and her friend, Catt MacDonald, organized the first Saskatoon Walk of Hope, in 2006, and our family has been involved ever since. This year marks the 18th Anniversary of the Walk in Saskatoon. We have seen many advancements in awareness, research, and treatments, but we have a long way to go, because OUTCOMES HAVE NOT CHANGED IN 50 YEARS!
When she lost her battle in 2009, my sister left behind three sons, a daughter-in-law, and 2 grandchildren, as well as our Mom, brother and 3 sisters. My sisters and I promised to keep her memory alive by continuing working for awareness and the Walk of Hope.
In Canada today, there are 17,000 women living with ovarian cancer. Each of these women is central to a family, every one of these women have people who love her. This year, I am walking for HER.
I am walking because ovarian cancer affects communities. It’s certainly touched my life, and it needs to be stopped.
This walk is special to me because it honours women and families touched by ovarian cancer and celebrates the hope that I carry with me every day – the hope for a future without this disease.
Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity entirely dedicated to this important cause. Funds will be used to provide support, increase awareness and fund vital research.
Please support my Walk by giving generously. Better yet, if you are up for a challenge this September, please consider joining me., and other Earth Angels. Together we can make a difference.
