A Miracle or Two
An update to this team note which I wanted you to be aware of. In recent days I I have been admitted to the KGH with continuing issues of blockage. I am still reminded of the upcoming Walk of Hope being held Sunday, September 8th, 2024 at Lake Ontario Park once again and hope to be there. My teal T-shirts are adding up to a collection of nine!! That's nine years of living with ovarian cancer as of this fall. I'm trying to keep up with the donations to the Walk of Hope 2024 from my bed.
This past year has been one of major miracles. During 2023, I was hospitalized several times for partial bowel obstructions caused by my pesky tumour constricting my small bowel. On my last emergency trip to the KHSC, I was met by the emergency/surgical doctor Dr. Sean Bennett. That's where the miracle comes in. Not luck or a coincidence but a miracle in the making. What were the chances of the only on call doctor/surgeon in emergency that night could be my saviour? Finally, a surgeon who wanted to help me so I could enjoy eating and socializing again after a year of mostly a liquid diet. Would you believe that within two weeks an elective surgery date had been set along with my now oncology surgeon Dr. Agrawal assisting. Two very busy surgeons and a definite date!!!! The surgery was very successful with the tumour removed to the best of Dr. Agrawal's very skilled ability and the small bowel resection completed by Dr. Bennett.
After a six day stay in hospital with the greatest nursing care ever, I was discharged home. Unfortunately, a weak spell took me down our stairs and I sustained some lacerations and bruises but not a break! Another miracle for sure. I still have some healing to do and with the help of a home transitions team. Now I'm working on recovery again here in the hospital..
Thank you for your support. It means the world to me, and everyone affected by this disease.
