Cancer Sucks! Help us FIGHT the FIGHT!
Today, thousands of Canadian women are living with ovarian cancer. Each of these women are central to a family. Every one of these women have people who love them. Just being there to support and honour them means everything. That’s why we are participating with thousands of others at the Ovarian Cancer Canada ‘Walk of Hope' in Ajax.
My mom, Cheryl, was one of these women who was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in May of 2018. She battled this ruthless disease – bravely enduring 6 rounds of chemotherapy and a massive cancer debulking surgery to remove all cancer in her abdomen.
In October 2020, amidst the Covid Pandemic, the relentless monster returned for another match. Despite all the extra stress & anxiety - she kicked cancers ass again!
For over a year, she remained healthy & feeling good taking oral cancer medications to maximize the time between recurrences.
In February 2023, she was called to the ring once more. After 6 more rounds of chemotherapy, we learned her cancer had strengthened and become platinum resistant to the chemo medications. With limited treatment options and rapid disease progression her time was running out.
On June 22, we were given devastating news that palliative comfort care was our only option. On July 16, 2023 at home with her family & loved ones by her side our beautiful angel got her wings to fly free ending her battle with Ovarian Cancer.
This years Walk of Hope is a tribute to my mom, Cheryl McFarlane, a courageous woman who battled this beast with such strength and determination.
Every dollar we raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity entirely dedicated to this important cause. Funds will be used to provide support, increase awareness, and fund vital research so that we can change the future for the women we love.
The Walk celebrates the hope she carried with her every day – the hope for a future without this disease. As a wife, a mother, a daughter, a granddaughter and a friend to so many. Myself, my 2 beautiful girls, my sister, 2 nieces, my grandmother and all my female friends and family are at risk for developing this devastating disease.
Even the tiniest amount helps makes a difference. Our team ‘Gramanama’s Ovary Achievers’. Together needs your help - we can make a difference together.
Our best year we raised over $5000 as a team - let's do it again... or even better let's BEAT in her memory.
Please DONATE to us individually or to our TEAM: Gramanama's Ovary Achievers: Family & Friends - it doesn't matter who the donation is under - it all goes towards our team. Together we are walking to FIGHT this ruthless FIGHT.
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Love, Ashley (Team Captain) and all the Ovary Achievers of Team Gramanama
