Welcome to My Personal Page
Thank you for your support!
I have had a brief but impactful journey with ovarian cancer. In early June of this year I went to my doctor concerned about my abdominal bloating, and by the end of June I had surgery and was confirmed to have ovarian cancer. I later learned my tumour was a mucinous borderline tumour - not benign, but not an invasive cancer that could cause further harm.
I am so grateful for a quick diagnosis and to be feeling healthy today, and that I listened to my body when something wasn’t right. This particular diagnosis is odd because while I am grateful to be healthy, my diagnosis still doesn’t feel “real.” I don’t have cancer or need treatments, but I still have to live with one ovary and wonder about my future health and fertility and monitor for further changes.
While I was told several times that I was too young to have a concerning cyst or to have ovarian cancer, the reality is this disease is happening to young people, too. The process of getting tested and diagnosed was frustrating and opened my eyes to the challenges of our medical system and to the lack of diagnostic tools specifically for ovarian cancer. In addition, my aunt passed away from ovarian cancer in 2023. Despite this, I was unfamiliar with the symptoms of the disease even when they happened to me. I would love to raise funds to continue supporting Ovarian Cancer Canada’s efforts to further research, advocacy and awareness, and diagnostic tools.
On Sept 8 I will walk in solidarity with those who continue to live with ovarian cancer or have been affected by it. I would love to raise funds for this charity and all are welcome to join me on the walk. Your support means so much to me!
