Why I Walk - Kaylie's Ovarian Cancer Story
In April 2022 I was given the shocking diagnosis of Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. I was 'too young' and 'too healthy' but this disease still had my number. Two surgeries and 11 sessions of chemo later, so far I am No Evidence of Disease. I take a daily maintenance drug, sort of like a mini chemo, every day to keep the disease at bay as long a possible.
Unfortunately, my story is not unique. Today, thousands of Canadians are living with ovarian cancer and approximately 3,000 will be diagnosed this year. 4 in 10 women will live 5 years after diagnosis. It’s time to pick up the pace for ovarian cancer. It's time to increase the 5 and 10 year survival rate of this disease, to finally improve outcomes for all those affected by the disease.
Ovarian cancer made itself a priority in my world when it upended my life, so I'm making it a priority to raise money to beat this disease. By participating and fundraising for the Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope, I'm raising money:
- to further vital, globally recognized research into the detection, treatment and prevention of ovarian cancer.
- to help ensure educational resources and support programs are available for those who need it
- to fuel advocacy efforts because everyone deserves to live life to the fullest.
I have benefitted from everything Ovarian Cancer Canada does - from research to support groups - and want to see this organization thrive, for my sake and the sake of others.
Every dollar I raise supports Ovarian Cancer Canada, the ONLY national charity dedicated to overcoming this disease.
The next big breakthrough in ovarian cancer is around the corner. As my OC friends and I say, 'we just have to live long enough for the science to improve.' Help make that possible. Please donate to my Walk now or sign up to join me because there simply isn’t time to wait.
Thank you for your support. It means the world to me, and everyone affected by this disease.
